LOUDON, NH (April 16, 1998) - Cold and crisp, Adam heads out for the first open practice day of the season, and munches on asphalt! Ouch! The short version Well, there's only a short version, this time. Adam and Reto took a day off from their extremely-demanding computer jobs to clean out the winter cobwebs and get back up to speed before everyone else did. So they drove up, got set up, and took to the track. The first few laps were pretty slow, but eventually Adam got back to his pace at the end of last season. 1:36's and 1:37's. Then he came in for a bit to rest. Reto was taking times and working the pits, and made a few suggestions for Adam to try next time out. Adam went out for another session and managed to drop his times some more as the temperatures started coming up. Indeed, he got down into the 1:34's, and even into the 1:33's before too long. Adam was looking forward to the coming weekend, as he was sure he'd get a podium finish if he could turn 1:33's so early in the season. Unfortunately, right before the end of the testing session, Adam grabbed a bit too much brake going into NHIS T3, and did a fairly high-speed tumble into the tire walls. He was OK, but the bike was a bit dinged up. Indeed, Adam was unable to get spare parts in time, and ended up cornerworking the upcoming weekend (April 18/19) instead of blowing away the competition as he'd planned. That's racing. Sometimes you get the podium, sometimes you get the tire wall.
